its more fun in Puerto Galera

Puerto Galera is a soothing vision of shimmering seas surrounded by lush mountains. It is considered one of the most beautiful and developed beach resort community in the country.

Starting from "backyard tourism" wherein local residents accept local and foreign tourist as stay-in guest, the island’s tourism has flourished. In the course of time, several hotels, resorts, inns and restaurants have mushroomed within the area.

There are a thousand things one can do here. Landlubbers can pitch tents, light bonfires, play volleyball, toss a Frisbee, go beach-hopping, watch the sunset, gaze at the stars, hike, go rock climbing, carom off on a motorcycle, discover Oriental Mindoro’s other tourist spots or simply live it up.

But water is certainly the main attraction of the island. Crystal clear and shimmering especially during the hot summer months, the sea framing Puerto Galera is ideal for swimming, sailing, surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving. In fact one doesn’t have to go by boat to get to a dive site. Within a kilometer from the coast, schools of Moorish idols, trumpet fish, frog fish, lion fish and leaf fish weave in and out of thriving corals and sea anemones while species of starfish – from the speckled red-and-white to the neon-blue Pacific – rest on the sandy floor.

Gradually sloping beaches – with the terrain ranging from powder white sand to grainy dark sand to smooth stones to rough coral rubble – comprise a large chunk of the island’s 25 thousand hectares. And while the Department of Tourism’s last count pegs the number of resorts at 115, pockets of isolated and virtually resortless coves and beaches are tucked between massive rock formations.

Outside of minor glitches, Puerto Galera is a tropical paradise that is both rustic and thriving. By day it echoes with the soft breeze and the pounding waves. At night, it comes to life with heady laughter and the clink of wine and glasses, only to segue once again to the barest whisper of the elements.

AZKALS WON in Vietnam

AZKALS win over VIETNAM (2-0)
A win by the Philippines against Vietnam on Tuesday will give the Azkals the three points they need to rise from the cellar in the current standings in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012.

Ejected late in first game of the Philippines versus Thailand Saturday, Azkals coach Michael Weiss is now forced to think of ways to mentor the team from the stands during the next game time.

In the post-match news conference, Weiss said looking ahead to the next game, "We''l make the best out of it"

Weiss was ejected for throwing the ball at a Thai player laying on the pitch in possible injury or pain while the game clock was ticking and lessening the Azkals' chances of scoring another goal.

"I don’t blame the referee for the loss tonight...We did not play well enough in the first half and by the time we tried to come back, we did not have enough time,” Weiss said.

In his assessment of the quick adjustments that led to his team's lone goal, Weiss said,  "Our couple of changes in the second half paid off."

He added that Jeffrey Christiaens, Marwin Janwer Angeles, and Patrick Gerry Anthony

Reichelt did well as substitutes for  Emelio Caligdong, Philip James Younghusband,  and

James Joseph Younghusband.

"All three played well," Weiss said.

In its account of the opening match, the ASEAN Football Federation noted on its website that "expectations were undeniably high for the Philippines. Much has been written and said of them and their many European-based stars."

"The inclusion of several foreign players two years ago saw the Philippines reached the semi-finals the last time around. With more Euro-based players this year, the Filipinos were obviously looking for a positive result beginning with the opening game against Thailand," the AFF website report also said.

Thailand's coach Winfried Schafer acknowledged that they were aware of the Azkals strengths.

“Only one mistake tonight we did not shoot for goal number three,” he said. “I said before the game that Philippines had strong players with good fitness and they gave us problems especially early on," Schafer said.

“Philippines are a new power in Asean football and it was a good victory for us,” he also said.

Some Azkals sustained some injuries during the tough game.

Phil Younghusband assured fans via Twitter. "I'm okay guys. Thanks for the concern. Just 2 cuts above my left eye that should be okay. Lets look forward to the next game :)

AZKALS vs Vietnam

BANGKOK—The urgency to win just went up a notch higher for the Philippines in the AFF Suzuki Cup.
Its semifinal hopes hanging by a thread, the Azkals hope to summon the indomitable spirit of 2010 as they take on a formidable Vietnam side tonight on the second matchday of Group A play in the AFF Suzuki Cup.
The Azkals dropped a 1-2 decision to host Thailand Saturday night, leaving them with no recourse but to win their last two matches, starting with the Vietnamese at 6:30 p.m. at the Rajamangala Stadium here.
The Vietnamese have a score to settle against the Azkals, who shamed them, 2-0, at the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi in the same competition two years ago. That win propelled the Azkals to their first ever semifinal appearance in the tournament.
Held to a 1-1 draw by Myanmar in its opening match, Vietnam also needs three points to enhance its chances of progressing to the semifinals.
“Both teams will be going for three points and it’s going to be a really tough game again,” said Azkals manager Dan Palami. “I think that every little advantage helps especially the win against them in 2010. I think they’re wary of us and of course, on our part, we respect them and they’ve always been a strong team, but hopefully we will be stronger.”
The Azkals will not have coach Michael Weiss on the bench for the clash after he was suspended for throwing the ball at a fallen Thai player in the late stages of the game Saturday.
Unable to sustain their pressing game after 20 minutes, the Azkals also struggled with their buildup play, resorting to long balls that the Thais found easier to thwart. It wasn’t until Patrick Reichelt came in that the Azkals found their groove as the Fil-German found Paul Mulders for the lone goal.
Weiss has hinted at changes in the starting lineup now that striker Denis Wolf is available for selection after he was sidelined by an ankle injury since Thursday. Creative winger Demitrius Omphroy remains sidelined by an illness.
“We have to really reconsider the lineup,” said Weiss. “I consider this a little bit of a war and we need to find the warriors for the war, the ones who can run and play football, and [strengthen] the cohesiveness of the team. We have members who are not familiar [with our play].
The Azkals have been on a similar situation before, more recently in the AFC Challenge Cup in Nepal last March when they dropped their first match before winning their next two to gain the semifinals.
“We can’t rely on history to give us the result we want,” said Palami. “We need to learn from mistakes.”
“Everyone needs to be pulling in the same direction,” said Rob Gier. “But we always tend to perform well when our backs are against the wall.”
